Dr. Radhakrishna recommended the introduction of National Service Scheme to the academics institution on a voluntary basis with a view to developing healthy contacts on one hand between the students and teachers and on the other hand establishing a constructive linkage between the campus & the community. With this mission Thakur Polytechnic has established the NSS unit in 2009 with 50 members.  It is one of the rarest diploma colleges in Maharashtra having approval of the NSS unit.

Significance of NSS :

1. The students get an opportunity to develop their personality with various activities conducted by NSS.
2. They get a platform to put up their talents and improve their skills in all he possible fields. 
3. The students get a chance to serve the society.
4. If the students complete 120 hours of social work in 1 year then they get a grace of 10 marks in their academics.
5. If 240 hours are devoted to the society, the respective student gets a NSS Certificate which is very useful in the future.
